چکیده

In this paper, we experimentally tested the positioning repeatability of MR-compatible manipulator with a CCD laser micrometer inside MRI. To evaluate the performance of MR-compatible manipulator inside MRI, the measuring system must be confirmed to work correctly inside MRI in advance. Therefore, the measuring system was tested to see if it can measure a specimen similarly regardless to inside or outside MRI. The results inside MRI were different from those outside MRI but the differences were small in comparison with the typical error of our manipulator. With this measuring system, the positioning repeatability of our MR-compatible manipulator was tested inside MRI with image sequence, inside MRI without image sequence, and outside MRI. The results proved that the manipulator performed 0.17[mm] translational and 0.17[deg] rotational positioning repeatability on average, whether inside or outside MRI, whether with or without image sequence.

MRI-compatible micromanipulator: Positioning repeatability tests & kinematic calibration.

In this paper, we report results from positioning repeatability tests and kinematic calibration of our magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-compatible micromanipulator. This manipulator provides medical and biological scientists with the ability to concurrently manipulate and observe micrometer size objects inside an MRI-gantry. We have already reported on its design, implementation, and the result...

An MRI-Compatible Needle Manipulator Concept Based on Elastically Averaged Dielectric Elastomer Actuators for Prostate Cancer Treatment: An Accuracy and MR-compatibility Evaluation in Phantoms

Background. A parallel manipulator concept using bistable polymer actuators has been developed to perform prostate cancer biopsy and deliver therapy within the bore of a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner. The dielectric elastomer actuators (DEA) used in this manipulator concept are promising for MRI-compatible robotics because they do not interfere with the high magnetic fields of MRI wh...

Advancements in magnetic resonance-guided robotic interventions in the prostate.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provides more detailed anatomical images of the prostate compared with the transrectal ultrasound imaging. Therefore, for the purpose of intervention in the prostate gland, diagnostic or therapeutic, MRI guidance offers a possibility of more precise targeting that may be crucial to the success of prostate interventions. However, access within the scanner is limi...

Robotic Assist for MR-Guided Surgery Using Leverage and Parallelepiped Mechanism

In this paper, we would propose a novel mechanism of surgical manipulator, which assists the surgeon in precise positioning and handling of surgical devices, like biopsy needle, endscope, in MR-guided surgery. This mechanism can transmit 3 translational and 3 rotational motion from the outside to the inside of MR imaging area using leverage and parallelepiped mechanism. Such a remote actuation ...
